How we shape the stone

  • THE BUSH-HAMMERING
  • THE FLAMING
  • THE ANTIQUING
  • THE BUSH-HAMMERING

The bush-hammering is a mechanical machining obtained thanks to the swing, the mechanical action of special hammers. The impact of repeated contact imparts a rough surface ideal as a non-slip surface, for external treads.
Widely used in northeastern Sardinia in the processing of granite pillars and lintels for the seaside villas and originally in the ancient villages of the hinterland, it gives the material a rustic look, highlighting the consistency of the stone and giving elegance to the finished work at the same time.
  • THE FLAMING

The flaming treatment is a thermal process obtained by using an appropriate gas mixture composed of a comburent (oxygen) and a fuel with specific thermodynamic properties (propane and equivalent).
The flame invests the surface to be treated at high temperature, which undergoes a thermal shock at about 600 ° C. This effect, combined with an immediate cooling of the surface with water, causes a phenomenon of thermal expansion, and split of quartz or silicon, which literally jumps off highlighting the crystalline structure and the natural color of the material.
This process is also effective on gneiss, serizzi and Sardinian white type granite.
The flaming process offers several advantages, such as the vitrification of the treated surfaces so that they become more resistant to atmospheric agents.
  • THE ANTIQUING

The antiquing technique of granite follows the same steps described in the flaming technique process, followed by a further later stage: the brushing.
The granite surface is subjected to rotary rubbing with brushes of different degrees of abrasiveness, to obtain the desired level of "consummation", even on the corners.
The effect is an old-looking surface, smoothed by the steps of time.
